Fallout Shelter: The Raiders

[Part of the Wasted Land story]

The main team assembled for exploration is Billy (Maxine's Kid), Harold (Bardo's Kid) and Wroughtfield (who has overcome his peaceful nature to use automatic weapons) and their first task is to hunt down the annoying raiders who constantly harass the vault. This goes well for the most part, as they travel far and wide - pushing back the raider territory while making new allies and even gaining a pet St. Bernard they named "Bernie" and a Mr. "Handy" robot (who clicks on things for you) in the process.

A run in with feral ghouls forces them back to base though, and it is only then they learn that a far worse threat had hit Vault 465 - a trio of deathclaws! Only 51 dwellers of the 103 survived the attack. Among those lost are Bardo, Rattlesnake, El Duce, Spikelor Bordooshio, Syn, Goliath Arp, Skrmishca and the native from Abanqueiro Ocean.

So many deathclaws...

Shell shocked by the loss, Sarah Silverlight tries convince everyone to stop sending expeditions out but only succeeds in shutting down a few rooms such as the radio room and overseers office. Billy, Harold and Wroughtfield soon depart again to hunt down the raider boss whom they eventually find, but they are unable to survive his nuke grenade attacks. Only Bernie makes it back alive.

Insight: Send a lot of health stuff with your away teams. Remember that if you don't spend a nuka cola to speed up travel, some of the health gear will get en route to the quest!

Fallout Shelter: Vault 465

[Part of the Wasted Land story]

They didn't know what triggered the explosion, but Rattlesnake knew it was bad. With his wife Sarah Silverlight and allies, El Duce, Wroughtfield, Syn and a native from the Abanqueiro Ocean they made their way into the vault that was previously guarded by hostile robots. On the way they find a band of crashed aliens, Spikelor Bordooshio, Flixxel Gooplet and Goliath Arp being led by Bob O'Reagan who had rescued them, and himself from impending slavery (at the cost of some of his friends).

They happily take them along as the vault is spacious and quite inviting, but seemingly restricted in improvements unless they can find even more dwellers. Or make them. The arrival of a lone wanderer, Skrmischa, and two single mothers, Maxine and Bardo, and their sons Billy and Harold, is welcomed - but Rattlesnake tells them and the other women, including his wife, what was to be expected of them. They didn't have much other choice so the orgies began.

There's a lot of boom chika wow wow...

Soon with enough inbreeding, the population started to grow and a radio room was even setup to draw in more wanderers, such as Spikelor's friend, Stomachio Timeflies. Having a good base number now, Rattlesnake was happy to start sending a few people on quests out in the wasteland.

Insight: Remember to check on and recall your wasteland wanderers as they will eventually die if you forget about them.

Sheltered: Black Vengeance

Part of the Fate of Heroes series - spoilers ahead!

Of the attack force, Carol Black is really the only one to return to the bunker with Timothy Redshoes and Mary dying from their injuries on the way back, and William Beardguy abandoning her during to try escape the region on his own. She learns from Michael Gray and Margaret Cleaner that Skrmischa and Carol Hattier had since returned with the last car part, repaired it and left with some supplies - leaving the bunker to them as agreed.

Enraged at the loss of her sister, Carol tries to convince her two remaining allies to go back to Glenchester and extract vengeance but they decline, quite rightly pointing out that they can just shut the hatch and survive indefinitely in this fully self sustaining bunker. Carol hears none of it though, and loads up with armor and as many bullets as she can carry. That turns out to be a big number, as the bunker is quite stocked with ammo, just not firearms. She then departs, leaving Michael and Margaret to their "Crypt".

With no intention of surviving this suicide mission, Carol attacks the Marauders head on with guns blazing. The crazed bastards seem to be popping out of the woodwork with their axes and blades and crowbars, but because none of them had guns of their own the playing field was quite even. Ultimately Carol's aim and grit and ammo out lasted the Marauders until at last, the walls and roads ran red with their blood. She had killed them all.

And became legend.

Sheltered: Meat Unraided

Part of the Fate of Heroes series - spoilers ahead!

With the addition of Mary, Cannibal Joyce, Edward Montgomery, Timothy Redshoes and Daniel Darksin - the army, led by the Black sisters move out in force and in high spirits despite only having 3 firearms between them.

At the same time Skrmischa and Carol Hattier go to search for that last missing car part, leaving only new comers Mark and Michael Gray to guard the base when the two surviving raiders from before return and bust down the door, timing their attack when the base is at its weakest, looking to steal more loot!

The auto rifle hits hard, but doesn't hit often.

Mark dies via pick axe to the face, but with both intruders weakened via the autorifle turret, Michael beats them to death with a metal pipe. He then recruits passerby Margaret Cleaner to assist in harvesting the bodies and fitting them into the fridge. The dead would not go to waste, not on his watch!

Sheltered: Declaration of War

Part of the Fate of Heroes series - spoilers ahead!

With Big Mike holding down the fort and trading with ex-bunker buddy Frances, Skrmischa leads a retaliatory strike force to attack Janet's crew. This does not go well at all, as Janet has superior numbers and firepower. Paul is carved up by a knife and Amy is shot by Janet herself - once in each eye.

Skrmischa and Christine are captured, stripped and after a few days of humiliation are sent back to their bunker in shame. Janet's emissary arrives sometime later to request for tribute again, only to be vehemently denied once more.

Instead, Skrmischa gets on the radio and starts recruiting people for the upcoming war, starting with William Beardguy, Elizabeth Armygal, Karen Road and the sisters, Martha and Carol Black (another Carol!). What's in it for them? Skrmischa offers them the bunker and the lion's share of the supplies, as she plans to leave on the RV once the last missing part is found.

Dianne, Big Mike and Brenda are not thrilled at this turn of events and all of them decide to pack up and leave with Frances in hopes of reaching greener pastures before the war begins.

Sheltered: Things are Looking Up

Part of the Fate of Heroes series - spoilers ahead!

A combination of a lack of rain, a failing air filter, and Ann harvesting Stephen (quite decomposed) and Shaliquor's "meat" for uncooked consumption leads to a wave of illness in the bunker, the floor literally covered in vomit. To this end, despite the lack of gas masks, everyone except Christine (for base communications) is sent out to get some fresh(?) air, and much needed supplies.

This does not go well for William and Ann who end up as bear food, while Carol "Red" Rein is killed in a skirmish with brigands on the road. Despite the losses, the survivor count actually increases as Dennis, Gary the bald, Catherine, Amanda Bandana, and Michael Mustache are recruited by the various teams on expedition.

Could have been Ann and William in this movie.
Also, this is a terrible movie.

Most have radiation poisoning upon their return, but fortunately there is a good stash of anti-rad tablets available, thanks to Janet returning briefly to trade goods with Christine. Interestingly, Skrmischa comes back with a car part - one of eleven required to repair the broken vehicle just outside. If it can be fully repaired, they might be able to escape this place.

The sound of thunder overhead also signals the end of the drought, and despite the black rain, things are looking up.

Sheltered: Over the Edge

Part of the Fate of Heroes series - spoilers ahead!

With madness closing in, Big Mike and Skrmischa were saved by William the merchant - who had returned to ask to join the group. The pair were in no position to reject him, so he quickly tasked them on a supply run while he buried the bodies of Dr. Vahlen and Pip top side.

While doing so a trio of girls - Janet, Carol "the original" and Ann come by and ask for asylum from some "bad people". William welcomes them in, and they set about fixing the facilities in dire need of repair. Ann also finally makes a mop and bucket to clean up all the filth scattered within the bunker.

A particularly foul smelling vent revealed the desiccated corpse of Shaliquor, who had been torn apart by a swarm of mutated rats. Upon their return, Big Mike and Skrmischa are surprised to find all the new comers in their base. They brought three of their own - Carol "Red" Rein (another Carol, this one with with red hair), Christine the librarian and Christopher.

Mutated rodents of unusual size!

This Christopher turns out to be the person the trio of girls was running from, and at the first opportune moment - Janet shanks him with a knife. This automatically makes her untrustworthy in the eyes of Big Mike though, and she is expelled to the wastes. Her friends Carol (the original) and Ann, don't stand up for her - opting instead to remain in the relative safety of the shelter.

Sheltered: The Dangers of Generosity

Part of the Fate of Heroes series - spoilers ahead!

The outings were surprisingly fruitful in terms of construction supplies, and with new recruits as Dr. Vahlen's good will invited the wanderers Frances, Paul and the gun-nut Stephen into the Shelter - much to Big Mike's disdain. The food supplies were almost all spent now, but at least the new comers could help expand and furnish the shelter a tiny bit.

Desperate to combat starvation, the expeditions began heading even further - which is when they started running into the local wild life. Dr. Vahlen and Skrmischa barely escaped from a ravenous bear, while Big Mike and Pip managed to slay a wolf for its meat. The boy was so excited by the kill though that he neglected to mention the bleeding bite he suffered during the combat.

Bears don't need gas masks. Clearly.

Back in the shelter, Pip passed away quietly in his sleep. Dr. Vahlen, distraught that she missed such an obvious wound was overcome by the shock suffered a heart attack right then and there - dying right beside Pip while everyone was "giving her space".

Unwilling to endure these bad vibes, Frances left to resume her wanderings. Stephen put his one bullet into his gun and after thrusting it in his mouth - pulled the trigger.

Sheltered: The Fifth Day

Part of the Fate of Heroes series - spoilers ahead!

Skrmischa and Pip watched with great interest as Big Mike and Dr. Vahlen took turns explaining the machinery that powered the lights and filtration system of the shelter, knowing that they would some day need the knowledge themselves. Meanwhile Shaliquor kept to herself, hunting the gigantic rats that had moved into the air vents.

While the shelter was stocked with enough gas to keep the vital systems running, food and water was quickly becoming scarce as the days wore on. Having no facilities also meant the filth of human excrement was beginning to pile up.

It's a poop bunker.

On the fifth day, a buzz at the intercom surprised them all. It was a trader named William, and while the group had nothing to offer him he did suggest they start foraging for themselves since the air was actually breathable topside before looking for other customers.

There was little other option if they didn't want to starve, so Dr. Vahlen handed out the supply of gas masks to everyone as they began to venture out into the wasteland. Shaliquor was happy to remain behind and stand guard.

Sheltered: Zero Hour

Part of the Fate of Heroes series - spoilers ahead!

After leaving the accursed hamlet, Big Mike and Dr. Vahlen found themselves in the odd company of Skrmischa and Shaliquor the magical, talking cat on their quest to find their way home. On the road they encountered a ragged boy named Pip, who had taken to wandering after losing his own home and family to some catastrophe in the past.

Dr. Vahlen took pity on the child and was in the midst of convincing her companions to let him come along when suddenly a brilliant flash of light exploded from the distant mountain range. Both the good doctor and Mike knew immediately what it was. "Get to cover!" barked Big Mike as he rounded up his allies and ushered them away from the blast.

"Down here!" meowed Shaliquoir, scratching at a well obscured metallic vault door in the middle of nowhere. Not wasting anytime, Big Mike wheeled the hatch open and got everyone into the darkness below - sealing it behind them just minutes before the radioactive blast reached passed overhead.

It took a magical cat to find it.

"What is this place?" asked Skrmischa, readying to fight whatever lay in the darkness within. It wasn't the sprawling dungeon she expected though, instead it was just a chamber with a few pieces of dusty furniture and foreign looking contraptions.

"It's a bomb shelter," explained Big Mike as he examined the surroundings with his small lighter. "And for now, it's home."

Darkest Dungeon: Battered and Broken

Reports from Darkest Dungeon - spoilers ahead! You can follow the rest of the story here!

With the manor cleansed all that was left was to break through the army of brigands surrounding the hamlet lured by the promise of easy riches. I knew what they pinned their hopes on that damned 16 pound cannon which claimed the lives of yet more of our number. Blunder Buss, Quark, Zermu Terlu, Techno Viking, Gigal, Yarnheim and that dark elf Valaria, each of them slaughtered by the oncoming foe.

Then the gods heard our cries of help!

Ultimately it was Yuria, her Paleshade, Skrmischa and Dr. Vahlen who managed to reach the dreadful weapon and in a marathon of a fight filled with suppression techniques, destroyed it and all the entire battalion of brigand scum that accompanied it. With the way now clear, most of our number are taking advantage to leave this accursed place. Not I though, I am too old and weary - there is nothing left for me to see. That might sound ironic coming from a blind man, but I think I shall stay on as the new care taker of this place. As they say, to fight the abyss, one must know it.

Darkest Dungeon: We were rewarded with Madness

Reports from Darkest Dungeon - spoilers ahead! You can follow the rest of the story here!

The gods smile upon us. Elizabeth, Alvinia and Shaliquor, Dr. Vahlen and the short in stature Skrmischa somehow found the way through the third floor of the dungeon, which had been twisted into living flesh and tissue. Their foes consisted of mammoth, beholder like cysts and horrific antibodies that could teleport them around the massive map. Despite all being near death, and hopelessly lost they still managed to find victory.

It was then my turn in what turned out to be the final floor where Kokabeel, Rocket Man, Sunbro Forever and I faced... the grounds keeper Penultimo? The mad man was in fact the wizard behind all the creatures here, and his mastery of sorcery was impressive but not unstoppable. It was only when he fused himself with the heart of darkness that his true power was revealed - unmaking Rocket Man and Kokabeel from existence before Sunbro and I finally put an end to his horrible life. It is just as well that we fought him now before the creature got stronger or we would not have had any chance.

As it is, he could already do this...

So this is what victory feels like, yet on the faces of those who descended into the Darkest Dungeon I can tell that their minds will be forever haunted by the experience. I imagine the Joining is the only thing that is keeping me sane right now... which is why I can write this. The nightmares are getting stronger though... if I make it out of this place I think it is time for me to take the long walk... the Calling, before it is too late.

Change of Alignment [NWO]

Part of the Tales of Skrmischa!

He should have killed me. That's what keeps running through my head. It all began when I answered Lord Neverember's last call to arms, to assault a demon controlled cathedral in Helm's Hold. After slashing through waves of imps and cultists I found myself standing before a horrible pit fiend. His attacks were just too strong, and my arms too weak. Worse, he was taunting me in my mind the whole time... showing me... horrible visions.

I was defeated. I was ready to die, then he showed up: Joseph Skyrim, my psycho ex. Ex-boss that is. Slaying demons is a specialty for him and his family. In mere minutes the pit fiend was flayed, mutilated, and dead - in that order. But it did something to me. Broke something inside. I didn't tell anyone about it. A few days after I decided to join another expedition (a popular one for a change), which sent me to the fire ruins to destroy a cursed ring... only there at the precipice I... changed my mind.

"Tired of Being the Hero" @ Stebss (NW-DGTCLL4N74)
It was incredibly fun killing my own party and the contigent of guards that came with us. Acquiring an ability to call forth an army of shades was just an extra bonus. When I exited that place I felt... free. Powerful. Able to do anything I wanted.

My first stop was Vellosk. Ever since arriving in the Sword Coast I've heard tales of the werewolves there. I have a personal grudge against that species so I decided to rid the world of a few of them. It was going splendidly well until he showed up again. This time it was me he was hunting, and somehow he defeated my new found abilities and beat me into the dirt with just his fists. He didn't kill me though. He just broke some of my bones and left me for the wolves... well, more like "hand delivered" right to their chieftain. Now I sit here as their prisoner, waiting for my turn in the clan's pit fight where the losers get eaten and the winners live merely to fight again.

He should have killed me. Because when I get out of here, I'm going get stronger - get better - and then I'm going to hunt him down.

One angry dwarf.

Festival Freelancing

Part of the Tales of Skrmischa in Neverwinter Online!

OBSTACLE COURSE @ Zoma666 (NW-DHWE5IMMC)
Signed up for guard duty for the Summer Festival and my first challenge was a non-combat obstacle course test which I found really cool.

Having passed the test it was on to the grind, which basically entails fighting off hungry trolls and annoying kobolds in addition to harvesting crops, flowers and herding escaped farm animals back to their pens. It's a pretty good change of pace and a very nice locale to boot. I overheard one of the women say that it was better than the Cragsteep Crypts which I had a chuckle about. The competitive spirit is getting the better of some participants though, especially in the Blooming Boughs where many go to harvest fireblossom flowers. Reports of thievery come in daily but there's little we can do about it as the festival rules clearly state only combating trolls and kobolds.

Also the other night I found someone who seemed... unresponsive... harvesting flowers in one spot repeatedly. As I was heading back to ask what can be done about it a familiar figure came charging towards that man with kobolds in tow. My ex-boss! I readied my weapons to assist but he spotted me and signalled to hold back, evading the kobolds attacks which sliced up the unmoving man to pieces. Only after the stranger was dropped did Mister Skyrim eliminate the his pursuers. I asked him what the heck was going on and he pointed out that the "person" was actually a mind frayed minion, hoarding petals for the dark Fey in Sharandar for their twisted magicks.

Those minions look so life like!

After giving me some reward bags that he didn't need, he left with instructions to seek out and inform him of any more of these brain dead minions on the grounds so that he could deal with them, since the proper authorities wouldn't. It's strange but I'm glad to be working for someone that gets things done again, even if it is just on the side.

Contract Terminated

Part of the Tales of Skrmischa in Neverwinter Online!

Started off with a pretty good run this time with...

ELUS DE L'ARENE @ Louwang (NW-DTRP2Q289)
A simple arena (on fire) where I defeated a bunch of kobolds and ogres, followed by...

Dungon Crawl @ Loomon (NW-DBCJA5K95)
A stroll in a gorgeous forest that unfortunately was filled with undead. Completing the mission was super easy though, allowing my to bypass pretty much all the enemies but I decided to swing back and clear them all out anyway.

Alas upon my return to the city I learned that Lord Neverember had issued a Call to Arms - a recurring special event that allows people like my employer to participate in skirmishes they had previously missed. This will probably be happening at a rate of one per weekend starting with the Orc Assault in the Tower District which my boss personally participated in. It is no surprise then that my initial contract to level up and run those myself has been ended. Didn't stop me from running the same skirmish myself though, and the amount of loot I took from those orcs was a good start to fund whatever my next foray would be.

So Many-Arrows!

Bloody Revenge

Part of the Tales of Skrmischa in Neverwinter Online!

Potions are an adventurer's best friend. Good thing I had stocked up before tackling some of these!

KOYU KURTAR @ BABALISE (NW-DN5F3M5AB)
This non english task is a simple sweep to clear some bandits in a rather vacant valley. At least they had goods to compensate me for my time.

The Teqa Swamp @ Slytborg (NW-DFYGNILZX)
This time I had to retrieve farmer's sword from orc barracks, a straight forward enough task with a fair bit of combat. Unfortunately, the sword at the end was not reachable. Maybe because I'm short and it's floating high up in a ray of blue light... or under the floor. Not sure.

Have Fun @ Grubberl337 (NW-DRUN8CMYV)
After a very wierd start of poking two barrels in the city to open a secret passage I found myself in a bandit DEATH TRAP! The first room has you stuck with two dozen archers and hexers which actually are the most troublesome lot in the whole tunnel system. Unfortunately what seemed to be the main iron door they came through was locked, making the adventure unfinishable.

Like this, just replace each spike with 3 archers and a mage. O_O

Final: Guard Barracks @ JRGAMER1 (NW-DL6301BE)
In this funny in a bad way quest I was surprised to find Sgt. Knox himself waiting at some guard barracks to ask me to fight (and kill) mad guards. All of whom were nasher rebels. They really ought to check who they hire. Anyway, a locked and unopenable sewer door (thankfully) prevented my progress from things getting any crapper so I left Knox to clean up his own mess.

Must admit that reporting about most of these "bad" ones really inspires my employer to get back into creating actual adventures.

Going for a Stroll

Part of the Tales of Skrmischa in Neverwinter Online!

Unlucky run with quests this time around as all of them were unfinished/unfinishable.

The Unholy Crusade @ leasius (NW-DTHFLZ3YZ)
This "crusade" starts off with me being trapped in a chest, and doesn't really go anywhere from there. Who the heck posts these missions?

This accurately sums up the entire "crusade".

Undead of Misty Cavern @ Miretles (NW-DPOIYRE4F)
After battling a bunch of undead pirates I was supposed to find their mind flayer boss in a cave clearing. He must have heard I was coming though because when I got there he was long gone.

Grund Karte @ smilechen (NW-DFMSA9ZRP)
This german language mission is a very short and simple "kill some spiders" for the folk of a nice hamlet and some (famous) hobbits. No reward trunk for such a menial task, but the rest of the environment looks really well done, despite being empty. Definitely returning when more things are happening.

Mystery of the Raventalon @ FeyrinRavenTalon (NW-DOH2TW8BH)
Like the previous one this takes place in a super detailed map with great atmosphere. Nothing to fight or do in here yet during my visit, but certainly another one I'll come back to once Raventalon finishes building (and populating) his manor.

Alas, I don't really get XP for seeing nice decorations but this should give my employer ideas of what to do with his own foundry stuff in the future. :P

Highs and Lows

Part of the Tales of Skrmischa in Neverwinter Online!

With the Blacklake Terror out of the way it was time to gain experience on more missions starting... in space?

The Assault on Xiloborg @Rawklawbstar (NW-DAHW7N6PW)
No idea how I got onto this alien landscape but there are lots of spiders and driders that needed killing. First to get past their web shield, then under a space bridge and finally into a furnace chamber with exploding platforms. Interesting mechanics and environment but, no nice reward chest at the end.

Goblin Raid @ Prettz77 (NW-DPUB2D0HF)
At least this was more down to earth. A large group of goblins led by an ogre had invaded the Blacklake district and it was up to me to clear them out. An easy task, though the boss was a bit more challenging. Fortunately they also had a nice treasure box which made killing them all the more fun!

A Tale of Banditry @ Aerudengineer (NW-D13PIQ602)
Then it was off to rid some bandits from a some strange farmland with floating houses. Once inside I encountered "Ghost Fighter Human 1" again, and just like last time could not open a door meaning I once more abandoned him to his plight.

EPIC RUN DRAKNESS DUNGEON @ hitmancros3 (NW-DP4DVWWRP)
Honestly the first thing this task involved is examining a plate atop the tavern spirit tower in the Tower District. Not sure where it lead next as there were no hints, but while up there I fell into the spirit well into an ominous secret area filled with the bones and spirits of other people that fell down the hole, including an arch mage. How does one become an arch mage when you are silly enough to fall down holes anyway? Fortunately his ghost was nice enough to teleport me out!

They obviously forgot their rings of feather fall.

Arrival in Blacklake

Part of the Tales of Skrmischa in Neverwinter Online!

That's the last time I come to Neverwinter by boat. Haven't heard of one actually making it to the city - instead everyone seems happy enough to be washed up on shore and fight through a piece of Valindra's undead army just to reach the city gates. To top it off my new, somewhat handsome, employer is a creep, skulking about in shadows and seemingly always staring at people. His gold is good though and given my low level of experience I was thankful to find work so quickly. It wasn't long before I was sent out on some missions...

Hall of Doom @ vertygerk (NW-DEN46WWLZ)
First one was a nice warm up, just clearing a few goblins from a random hall. Didn't have a nice treasure chest to loot though.

Dusk Deeps @ duskroma (NW-DBLVC4HGC)
I was then sent into some abberant filled caves to aid a mysterious spirit named "Ghost Fighter Human 1". Despite clearing out all the enemies I couldn't open the last(?) door and was forced to abandon the awkwardly named ghost to his misery.

Daydream Believer @ laura16 (NW-DJNW9WQNA)
Took a short nap next to a fountain afterwards, and suddenly found myself in the dreamscape of Elysium. The queen there wanted my help eradicating the random threats in her windy realm. An easy task for which I was rewarded a belt. Oddly when I awoke it was still in my inventory.

ZWorld Issue 1 @ Skumb7 (NW-D02C89G4G)
Lastly I went to investigate a strange house in a twisted forest, meeting the undead man Skumby who lived there. Turns out the place was an arena, and before I knew it I was fighting many waves of zombies mixed with various other undead. I defeated the gauntlet though, and Skumby begrudgingly gave me a prize for my efforts - a shield.

Once that was done I was finally eligible to participate in the Blacklake Terror skirmish, where an evil sorceror was summoning hordes of undead to attack the lake side from the safety of his boat. Truth be told it was child's play compared to Skumby's arena, especially with four other people helping. First skirmish done. Eleven to go.

Not bad for a first day's work!
