The Old Guard 2 and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Sequel movies that ignore common sense.

The Old Guard 2

This sequel continues the story of a band of immortals (led by one played by Charlize Theron who isn't immortal now) as they continue to do dangerous things and get their feelings hurt, mainly because physical damage is meaningless. Hilarious plot devices to provoke hand to hand fights (which are not bad but very choreographed) including things like, don't use firearms near the reactor but then proceed to step on exploding mines in that area which are apparently ok? They try to give answers, but the answers are silly. Not as good as the first movie.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

This latest Indiana Jones flick sees an elderly Doctor Jones (Harrison Ford) still fighting Nazis over an ancient artifact (again). Good news: I feel this is better than the previous movie "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull", but that is a super low bar to clear. As it is, you need to actively accept that characters here can ignore physics and common sense with simple things like, knocking someone out and dropping them off camera means no one can spot the body now since it is out of the shot - even if in reality they'd be standing right on top of them! If you can look past (a lot) of that, then you might enjoy this adventure.

A Million Ways to Die in the West

Toilet humor must be one of them.

In this comedy western, a sheep farmer (Seth MacFarlane) tries to win back his girlfriend with the help of a new comer to the town (Charlize Theron). With a predictable story you'll mostly hang around for the jokes and gags which will be hit and miss, mainly depending on how much you enjoy Seth MacFarlane's material. I found it funny enough, and was entertained by the surprising cameos.

Favorite character. :P

Not sure I'd recommend it though. I guess if you like Seth's other works such as Family Guy or American Dad! then this might be for you, otherwise it's your mileage may vary... you might end up counting sheep. I give it one and a half hat turds out of five.

The Old Guard

Doesn't have answers you're gonna like.

A group of highly trained soldiers is exploited by a research company who are equal parts greedy and stupid. Led by Andy (Charlize Theron) these special individuals are really not people you should be messing with. While the plot is somewhat predictable, the intentionally sketchy lore presented works fine in terms of creating tension during the piece.

Everyone cool has a violent job.

What shines are the violence and fight scenes, which obviously had a bit of work put into it. Gunplay here is quite nice too (in the John Wick way) and the acting is pretty solid all around (apart from maybe the main bad guy). A very entertaining film for those who like action, I give this 3.5 out of 5 and would definitely watch it again. Recommended!

The Fate of the Furious

Suspension of disbelief in overdrive.

Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and crew are quite an accomplished lot now, what with having around 7 movies under their belt. It's for this reason Cypher (Charlize Theron) decides that the only way to best them is to simply turn Dom against them.

The result is a fantastical action packed movie with some crazy stunts, nice action sequences, many unbelievable plot points, graphical hacking (lol), and quite a number of very nice automobiles (which is mandatory in this series). Your suspension of disbelief will be well and truly tested, more so than any previous Furious movie.

This is far from the most ridiculous part.

It's also great that they have plot continuity from the previous films and that there are many returning faces. Definitely entertaining if you can turn your brain off for long enough. I give it 3 crucifix necklaces out of 5 and would definitely watch it again. For best effect, you should at least watch the previous 2 movies in the franchise though.
