Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Where bullets solve everything!

In this game you play as one of the criminals recruited into the expendable Task Force X to retake Metropolis from Braniac's invasion - and he just so happens to be controlling the Justice League! While Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot and King Shark have slightly varying modes of speedy and vertical transportation all of them heavily employ firearms to deal most of their damage: especially in boss fights where you don't want to or simply can't be next to your target.

The game play is quite fun and the animations are fantastic, but they really shot themselves in the foot by making the "after the main game chapters" which continues the story (albeit lacking cut scenes now - replaced instead with comic strips), adds new squad members, and pretty much makes you fight the same bosses with slight twists but in exchange for a huge amount of grinding. I only did the easier / faster half of those chapters before calling it quits. While I did enjoy this, I can't really recommend it because of that. 

The Flash (2023)

After the events of Justice League, the Flash (Ezra Miller) is left feeling like the "Janitor" of the team until he works out that he can travel back in time to try change the past and change his and more importantly his parent's fates. It's almost like someone read my review of the Justice League and took the "use cameos instead of an ensemble cast" to heart and for the most part it works, the only issue being that some of those cameos are more interesting / better acted than the protagonist.

While I enjoyed Ezra's goofiness and humor that might not be everyone's cup of tea, but a bigger problem here is the CGI quality which is odd since most superhero flicks have amazing budgets for this. It might just be that due to the excessive CGI required in the movie there are noticeable aspects especially when it comes to people. Especially when compared to say Star Wars that's doing magic for the human faces some people here would be closer to video game quality.

Lastly, this was clearly made with DC movie fans in mind as there are a lot of inclusions that a regular movie goer wouldn't catch or simply be puzzled over. That's great news for someone like me, but I suppose someone going in blind will just have to take everything at face value spectacle. All up, despite me expecting a bad movie this was actually fine. Not amazing, but still enthralling enough to keep us glued to the screen rather than doing anything else.

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War

Definitely earns the "Dark" part in the title.

The basic story of this animated movie is that Apokolips is attacking Earth (again) but this time he means business! Though still centered on John Constantine (voiced by Matt Ryan) this one features the a lot more of the Justice League and then some, unlike the last outing. The animation is above average quality and the story is pretty damn good as well.

"Get to work, demon!"

There is also loads of gore and violence, so if you don't want to see your favorite superhero characters get mutilated, dismembered, degraded and killed then you might want to skip this. For me, it makes it ALL THE MORE AWESOME! I give it 4 paradooms out of 5 and would definitely watch it again! Highly recommended.

Aquaman

Giving giant forks a chance in the spotlight.

Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) aka "Aquaman" is minding his own business, drinking beers, taking down pirates and giving people the bends, when he is summoned back to Atlantis to try stop his half brother from launching an all out war on the surface world.

Get ready for surprise explosions!

Flashbacks also serve as a backstory for Arthur, and the big budget CGI is used to full effect throughout this very entertaining adventure. I particularly liked how every time a scene threatened to get quiet or slow, something would just explode and push the plot into an action scene keeping it at a good pace.

Speaking of the story, it is pretty good - better than Justice League and one I'd definitely watch again. If you like superhero stuff, or Jason Momoa, or both, then I highly recommend this. I give Aquaman 4 tridents out of 5.

Justice League

DC still has a hard time catching Marvel.

When a cookie cutter bad guy with no depth suddenly appears to collect dangerous artifacts it's up to Batman and Wonder Woman to assemble a small team of superheroes to save the day. The effects are great, the funny bits work well and bonus points for the music which incorporates bits of recognizable themes.

It's like Aquaman was an after thought. As usual.

Alas, there are more than a few plot holes here and while I get why this needs to be an ensemble team, some could have just been cameos rather than main parts. All up it's a decent enough action flick, but I feel it could have been better / done more with what they had and leaves an odd sensation that the entire movie was "filler", which it shouldn't be. For that I give it 3 parademons out of 5 and am not so keen on watching it again.

Justice League Dark

Aka "Batman meets Constantine".

When people start having waking nightmares and killing each other, the Justice League springs into action to try stop the madness. And by that I mean, Batman alone decides to investigate. I suppose the rest *could* be trying to keep the peace but we don't really see that. It is totally understandable though to make room for the more mystical powered heroes he teams up with, the most notable being Zatanna and Constantine.

Facial expressions: Determined, Determined, Determined, and Batman.

There's a bit of slowness during the introduction of these newbies, but the fun gradually picks up pace as the team faces more absurd characters and challenges such as: demons, ghosts, wizards, shit monsters... etc. Even Batman isn't impressed (which is hilarious). While the story is definitely out there, it works towards a very satisfactory ending.

Not a bad outing for this Justice League movie. Not fantastic, but not bad. I'd definitely watch it again and hope they make more of this "Dark" series. All up I give it three magic spells out of five. If you like Justice League and/or the Constantine TV show, you'll probably like this.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Where fanboys rejoice and then get mad! :P

Supes and Bats disagree with each other, and Lex capitalizes on this to do crazy stuff. That's the premise of the movie and one pretty much everyone expected from the trailer or even just the title. These are somewhat different versions of the characters we're used to though. Instead of being brilliant, all three are simply more stupid emotional.

Judging from this poster, they are both ashamed of being in this film.

Oh and Batman uses guns, doesn't really care if people survive encountering him (giving even more contrast to Superman), and trips balls often. OFTEN. It's awesome! Also worth pointing out that Ben Affleck does a great Batman, but an even better Bruce Wayne. I wasn't checking the clock but I believe there's more Bruce than Bat in the film which is actually pretty cool.

Despite having all these big superhero names most of the action is still reserved for the last act, which makes it all the better when you get to it. The film is clearly DC's platform for building the Justice League too, giving little glimpses of other characters in their universe.

Overall I can agree it's not the best DC movie ever (hard to compete with my fave "the Dark Knight"), but I still very much enjoyed it and would definitely watch it again. I give it three and a half beat downs out of five.

Justice League: Gods and Monsters

A bloody rendition in an alternate universe!

So straight up, I'm not sure why Bruce, Clark and Diana even made it to the cover of the box because they are NOT present here AT ALL. Instead we get Mexican Superman Hernan who is the son of Zod, Bekka the red haired amazon and Kirk who unlike Bruce, has no gadgets but makes up for it by being an f*ing vampire. Not sure how the "League" was formed with just three members, but it doesn't matter as the public hate them anyway.

Why? Because they kill bad guys. Yep. Because they KILL. And that is what makes it bloody awesome. After adjusting from the off-balance of this alternate universe, I was quite entertained by what ensued. The story is passable and gives each of the three their own little back story of how they came to be and the art is of regular Justice League level, but the action sequences are what got me. Yes, there are somewhat "generic" bad guys but boy is there a lot of onscreen killing, stabbing, immolation and such and that gets a massive thumbs up from me.

Confirmed: Best status to inflict on an enemy is "death".

Honestly the violence and Michael C. Hall (Dexter) voicing Batman are the only two things this has going for it. I just hope they can continue the story since they did kill off a heck of a lot of people in this one movie. Given the character list available to them though, it shouldn't be a problem. This one is definitely worth a watch, and one I wouldn't mind watching again a few times. I give it three alternate heroes out of five.

I should also note there are three, six minute clips focusing on each of the new alternate heroes. Not really a lot happening in them nor is six minutes enough time to get invested into the action but if you like the movie, you'll probably like those too (though technically you should watch them -first-). :P
