The Cloverfield Paradox

In space (stations) everyone can hear you scream.

Somehow the Earth has run out of fuels to use (because tidal and solar power is shit apparently) so an experimental space station is launched to try create a new source of energy. This sci-fi horror focuses on the crew of said station who are in for a bad time when their experiments start causing dimensional tears.

Some bad stuff is happening? We'd better split up!

After a pretty slow start (so slow they actually fast forward quite a bit) it does pick up slightly as things start going wrong - but almost all the scary parts are foreseeable, especially when people start going off doing solo things (because that's a good idea in a horror, lol). Despite that and the slightly subdued pacing I thought it was OK. Nothing great though, nor is it one I'll watch again or recommend. I give it one and a half space worms out of five.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Baron Zemo steals the show.

Another strong superhero show from Marvel, this one focusing on two of the now inactive Captain America's closest friends: Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and "Bucky" Barnes (Sebastian Stan) who are both trying to get back to living post-Thanos.

I think Marvel is onto a winner making these short series. Helps avoid filler!

With a decent budget, great action scenes and most importantly excellent character development this six episode series is a must watch. Even if it's just for the scene stealing Baron Zemo (Daniel Bruhl). I like it better than Wandavision and give it four shields out of five.

The Alienist

Aka psychiatrist.

It's 1986 and to help solve a series of gruesome murders, titular alienist Lazlo Kreizler (Daniel Bruhl) is called to help the police to solve the crime and catch the killer. There's quite a bit of production value behind this one with good set pieces and costumes to back up the decent acting though there are bridges in the plot you'll need to ignore. Large rickety bridges.

The intrepid and always well dressed heroes.

Season two sees Dakota Fanning's character take more of a lead role in the series since Lazlo is somewhat unlikable at times, though this does make it sway a bit too much into the "girl power" spectrum. Regardless, both seasons make for interesting TV especially if you are into period murder mysteries. I give it three climbing hooks out of five and would watch season 3 if one is ever produced.
