Sojourn at Entropia: Rifleman

[Part of my Sojourn at Entropia story.]

Seems sci-fi goblins exist here too.

My old rifle finally broke mid combat but fortunately I had bought another one for 4 PED. While the new one does more damage it also eats more cells per shot. >.<

They were certainly out in force though, so I decided it was time to get out of there. Especially since my rifleman skills are lacking! (lol, queue Running with Rifles theme)

I went back to Camp Icarus for rifle training.

Like in most MMOs, getting multi-aggroed is bad!

The end result is I can properly use that rifle Caligula gave me now! My previous skill level made it pretty much a pea shooter. This means I have two usable rifles, and around one hundred bullets to share between them. Great. :/

Sojourn at Entropia: No Sweat

[Part of my Sojourn at Entropia story.]

Anna next radioed in for me to find a missing colleague of hers.

While searching I stumbled upon Boreas Outpost, a popular "sweat camp".

Players collect monster sweat then sell it for PED.

Also found hints of a shadier side to the game, if this ad is any indication.

Eventually found Anna's colleague. She wasn't going to like the news.

Sojourn at Entropia: A Test of Piloting

[Part of my Sojourn at Entropia story.]

Decided to look around at Fort Argus briefly.

Not sure how many other MMOs have player run banks that do that!

Also learned that you can earn PED, ISK (Eve Online), and Linden (Second Life) just by registering and listening to a radio station? You gain .01 PED and 10 RP (radio points) every 10-17 minutes, with 100 RP being converted into more PED once a month when they pay it out. The only rules are that you click something every hour to prove you are still there and that you do not mute the channel.

From my experience there are lots of advertisements here too, repetitive ones and you get maybe two  after each song. Possibly the same one twice. The music itself is trance/dance techno which can get irritating after awhile. Especially since the station only seemed to play stuff from Bassnectar, The Prodigy and Benni Bennasi. So not a lot of variation there.

Anyway since most of my tasks were at Fort Troy I did decide to teleport back there and buy fuel on the market. 100 cans for 4 PED.

At least my VTOL is useable again!

Anna, camped a bit outside Fort Troy has a few tasks for me to do, in and around the robot infested volcano.

Fortunately they are pretty straight forward tasks for people that can fly.

Just gotta be careful of the lava. And the robots.

And the forest canopy!

Sojourn at Entropia: Exploring the Peaks

[Part of my Sojourn at Entropia story.]

For kicks I decide to visit the Twin Peaks mall. At least now I have 10.01 PED to my name!

Seems the player shops also follow the "Sex Sells" theorem.

At least there's a nice throne to sit on.

After some relaxing it's time to move on. I decide to go on foot to conserve some fuel. Don't worry, the VTOL is in my pocket.

Less jog, more marathon.

Eventually I find... a castle!?

Sojourn at Entropia: A Lesson in Space

[Part of my Sojourn at Entropia story.]

Despite being airborne this VTOL doesn't actually go too fast, which is good as it means I can take pictures! :P

First port of call was Twin Peaks.

Here I met Sarah Excel Silverlight of the EUSF.
She was offering a free ride to the next planet.

WHAT? Since I wanted to know more about space I talked with her a bit, learned that space is fully open PvP, and learned about the six other planets. According to her, Calypso is only 10-15% of the game! To give an idea of distance, she said the planet she was heading to next: the jungle planet Arkadia, would take around an hour to get to in her space craft. She mentioned I could cut down the travel time to 1.5 minutes if I have a starship warp me around. The going price for such a trip is 45 PED.

She also gave me links to some of the larger spacecraft in the game.

Cost $11-14k USD.

Cost $20k USD.

Holy crap, some people sure have a lot of money for gaming. I imagine it's something like EVE Online up there. Anyway, I decide to stay planet side and bid Sarah farewell.

She is later captured and held hostage by space pirates.
Player pirates, who charge PED to release hostages.
I guess that's a thing.

Sojourn at Entropia: Caligula

[Part of my Sojourn at Entropia story.]

While doing that insane swim I was chatting in the Rookie channel and befriended one Gaius Caligula Augustus who decided to help me out with the rest of my exploration tasks. He met up with me at the Limnadian District.

He has a Quad-Wing Interceptor!

Not only does he give me a lift for free...

He gives me a Sleipnir VTOL aircraft! O_O
I don't care if it's second hand!

He also gives me 40 cans of fuel, fresh armor, a rocket launcher with explosive ammo, a new rifle AND 10 PED. His generosity is staggering. To you in might not be much, but having lived the F2P part of this game, I am overjoyed. I have to question then why his ultimate desire in the game is to become an evil space pirate? :P Eventually we part ways but thanks to him I can now get around a little easier!

Wheeeeee!

Sojourn at Entropia: Plans for the Poor

[Part of my Sojourn at Entropia story.]

Suddenly - level 5 dinosaur!

Take that, Jurrasic Park wannabe.
Unfortunately, it broke my armor. Damnit!

Selling broken armor nets me .10 PED.

Also, someone managed to pull the remains of my car back to town.
I managed to salvage 4 cans of fuel from this husk, which is a miracle.

I decide to try do some exploration quests next, but without a ride, or at least money to pay for players to taxi me through very dangerous terrain I needed a plan.

Sojourn at Entropia: Body Parts and Shrapnel

[Part of my Sojourn at Entropia story.]

With few supplies my choices of missions had been narrowed down significantly, but then I had a thought. Fiddling with the teleporters and talking with the teleport technician at Port Atlantis opened some locations for me to visit. Hopefully one of them would have a quest that would supply me with some much needed ammo, or a new ride.

Fortunately, Half-moon Cove had an NPC who gave out ammo to hunt some level zero crab things. Yay! I got even more ammo for killing the brood mother crab.

This let me get another task nearby to fight some Maffoids.

The reward for that was some nifty red armor at Port Corinth. Woohoo!

With that I managed to do a few more quests in the Corinth vicinity.
Stop telling me you are evading, monster!

Sometime during this, one of the critters I kill also drops a new rifle for me. Yay! This is a big deal because a buying a newbie rifle costs 4 PED, and the critters don't really drop anything in the way of money. Just body parts and shrapnel.

Sojourn at Entropia: No Better Lure

[Part of my Sojourn at Entropia story.]

After waking up from cryosleep I'm quickly ushered in to the "tutorial" station which other than teaching me basic things like walking, also hands out a lot of free stuff like a laser pistol, laser rifle, rocket launcher, ammo for all of them, mediball (health pack), five cans of fuel AND A CAR! There's no better lure for new players quite like free handouts huh? During the course of the tutorial I also earn my first .01 PED. Lol.

Of course there are weird aliens...

...but I'm just having fun driving around...

in first person!

Sojourn at Entropia

Decided to try out this little MMO called Planet Calypso, now better known as the Entropia Universe, an open world sci-fi experience and one of the few games whose currency ties directly to the US dollar (1 US = 10 PED). Yup, if you earn enough PED you can even cash it out. Wonder how well a F2P player would fare in such a place? So did I.
