NBI: Poetry Slam 2015 (and Seven Sins) Round-up!

The NBI for this year is just about finished and it sure attracted a number of blogs I've not previously followed, swelling my link numbers from 59 to 107! I also managed to get a few participants (because I'm not as awesome as orignal host Syl) for this "Gold" themed poetry slam, and would like to thank everyone that participated. Hope the NBI was a good experience for all and I'll be seeing you around in the blogosphere. :)

For those interested I also compiled a small results list from the final "seven gaming sins" talk-back challenge and had 19 people reply. Of them:

11 - Don't mind sexiness in game
14 - Have a large backlog of games
16 - Opt out of non-rewarding or non-enjoyable acts

4 - Yell at people when angry
2 - Stalk people out of hatred
15 - Get envious
6 - Kick or avoid weak players

NBI 2015: Poetry Slam - PIXEL MONEY!

Here is my entry to this year's NBI poetry slam (which you only have a few days left to join in)! The topic this year is "Gold" and I thought this piece rightly shows just what most MMO players (myself included) are actually doing, be it intentional or not. I apologize now for the adult language and non-standard rhyme format. :P

-PIXEL MONEY-

Shiny coins, gold and wealth,
in game its better than health,
cause all life is cheap and free:
You just want that pixel money!

You can buy armor and pots,
home decor, weapons, lots!
Show off your bling if thats your thing!
Make your pixel money sing!

It's also pretty easy to get:
find a mob that ain't a threat,
kill it dead, make your hand red,
you'll get that pixel money yet!

Yup - its not made by a bank,
and it always smells very rank
the truth hits you with each scoop:
you're collecting critter poop!

They have bags you say?
Does that brighten your day?
What about those rats, spiders and bats?
Tentacled aliens or giant gnats?

You've found gold in them too
But have never before gone "Eww",
Cause you want what they've got
and you want awhole lot!

GET THAT PIXEL MONEY!

Rob that critter for PIXEL MONEY!
Reach into that corpse for PIXEL MONEY!
Up to your elbows in PIXEL MONEY!
Fill your bags with PIXEL MONEY!
Test it with your teeth! PIXEL MONEY!

NBI: Poetry Slam 2014

As with last year, Syl is running another Poetry Slam for the NBI this time with a theme of "magic". To that end I thought I'd devote my entry to someone most fantasy MMORPG players have run into at one point or another...

The Lich

 

The fighters may be strong
and the rogues very sly
but in all things magic,
the master is I!

 

I conjure light in the dark,
help arrows find their mark,
mend wounds without thread,
I can even raise the dead.

 

I fly where others fall,
can charm with a spell,
I can phase through a wall,
and summon demons from hell.

 

I can read your puny mind,
make bridges from thin air,
shoot lightning from my behind,
and ignite your underwear.

 

I can make your skin freeze,
open locks without keys,
make you explode and burn!
To ashes you shall return!

 

Physics? Science? What is that?
I open dimensional gates at will.
I can turn a king into a cat.
Impossibility is my skill.

 

I can almost live forever,
I don't need a body to survive.
But try to take my treasure
and I will slowly flay you alive.

Legatus is Blue,

 

I love Mabinogi

and so should you!

 

You can go to the forest to kick a bear

 

You can dress like a cat anywhere!

 

Take flight and soar into the sky

 

don't worry Milletians can't really die.

 

You can take your elephant on a boat

 

and catch stars as they fall down

 

hope your river raft stays afloat

 

and bring trade goods to each town.

 

Tend to your crops, build a home,

 

or through the vast lands roam.

 

Train your pets, dance like a fool.

 

sure, save the world a bit - it's cool.

 

You'll face demons and gods

 

and devious challenges true,

 

but that's ok because eventually,

a demi-god is you!

 

Be warned, with so much to do

you might end up with a wife!

NBI - Poetry Slam

What should I write about?
Lady Syl asked for a poem;
Maybe about my new pet's snout?
Or reaching the lab of Goemm?

 

The dragon in that murky swamp
he hasn't appeared for me,
but many others I did stomp
for the sake of gold and glory.

 

Across distant stars and lands,
no journey is too great.
My killing spree, it just expands
even to those fiendish krait.

 

Most people would think me mad,
a criminal and a serial killer
but in MMORPG's it's not too bad
to be a pixel-blood spiller!

 

And so it goes through time and space
slain foes laying all over the place
but weep not, they are not truly gone
in a few minutes they'll just respawn

 

then I'll slay them all once more
and take their stuff as my own.
Most games do have a violent core
and it's more fun if you aren't alone.

Now that's what I call loot!
