Photobucket Burn

As you probably have noticed, all the images on my blog are now either broken or an advertisement for Photobucket, which has been my image host since I started in 2011. They've been a decent host over the years, with only a handful of down times that I can remember.

Alas with their decision to monetize their service, and me not willing to pay $400 odd for it, I bid them adieu today with no ill will whatsoever. Thank you for being a great host in the past PB! Now I'll have to look for a new free alternative for posts moving forward.

For those wondering, no - I'm not going to fix all the broken images. I'll just retrieve the ones I like (mostly my own art) and maybe put them in a gallery somewhere. Apart from my photo stories which will really be broken now, the majority of this site has mainly been about the text anyway so I'm not really fussed.

This gives me a good opportunity to start a new chapter, and start fresh in some areas which I've been keen to do for a while now. Thanks for your patience while I slowly segregate everything before this post, to everything coming next. Have a good day all! :)

  1. Well, that sucks.

Any possibility of using Blogger to hold the graphics?

    1. Looks like I can! It's not very forthcoming about limits though - I'll have to dig into it a bit more.

    2. I think it'll go up to about 15-16 GB for free, just like the regular Google account, if you're uploading hi res pics. If you're uploading low res, I think it's unlimited.

    3. That's great, thanks Redbeard! I'll make use of it as long as it lets me. :)

    4. Okay, I finally found it. This is 2015, so there might be more current info:

"Blog description – 500 characters max; Hyper Text Markup Language markup not supported
Number of blogs – 100 blogs per account
Number of labels – 5,000 unique labels per blog (an increase from the original 2,000), 20 unique labels per post (with at most 200 characters)
Number of pictures - Ordinarily, Up to 1 GB of total storage, shared with Picasa Web. If you've upgraded to Google+, your photos will be stored in Google Photos, where you have 15GB of storage space shared with Gmail and Drive. However[citation needed], if one has signed up for Google+ account, images less than 16 megapixels (4920 x 3264)[32]would not be counted to this storage limit. For users not signed up for Google+, 800 x 800 pixels and below images would not be included in this storage space.
Number of posts – There is no limit on the number of posts one can have in one blog. However, only 50 posts can be published per day before a user is required to go through a check process.[citation needed]
Size of pages – Individual pages (the main page of a blog or archive pages) are limited to 1 MB
Size of pictures – If posted via Blogger Mobile, limited 250 KB per picture;[33] posted pictures are scaled to 1600px[citation needed]

Account Suspension: If your site violating any terms of service, your site will be suspended by Blogger without any notice. Sometimes repeated violation may cause your whole Google account to be suspended.[34]"

    5. Thank you for digging that up Redbeard! Must be all the pirate treasure digging skills!

1GB is going to last me awhile I think. Now I'm more concerned with the 5000 label limit! :P
