Dexter and Dexter: New Blood

Everyone's favorite serial killer.

Mild mannered Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is an excellent blood splatter analyst working for the Miami Metro but also moonlights as a serial killer who takes out criminals that managed to evade the justice system, then chops them up and makes their bodies "vanish". Ok I lied. He is actually a serial killer that moonlights as law enforcement and somehow manages to stay under everyone's radar most of the time through 8 seasons, +1 with Dexter: New Blood which takes place after the first series. He is always fun to watch and each season brings a new nemesis.

Sometimes it gets messy.

Obviously as a crime drama, there is a bit on the drama side too as on top of all of this Dexter tries to balance family on top of everything else. It's a little annoying at times, but still works for the story. Great plot magics also take place from time to time that either see the usually meticulous Dexter goof up (to let bad guys continue in the story) or more often the law enforcement representatives miss obvious steps or procedures that surely would have caught on to crimes (to let both Dexter and the bad guys continue in the story). Still a very good show, but maybe not for those that dislike some gore (usually implied but sometimes visceral). Recommended!

Stupid Kids: Safe (Mini Series) and Walker (TV)

Probably the same ones that enjoyed Yooka-Laylee.

Safe (Mini-Series)

When widower Tom (Michael C. Hall with a British accent) has one of his daughters go missing, he goes to great lengths to find her as the mysteries pile on. This thriller will keep you guessing and asking each episode until the end, and the casting is pretty great.

My main problem with it is that most of the kids important to the story are fucking stupid. I mean, I was pretty stupid as a kid (and nothing has changed lol!) but these ones even make me look good. That said Safe is still worth a watch as it is very entertaining. Three and a half gated communities out of five.

No one's really safe when Dexter is around. :P

Walker (Season 1)

In this reboot Walker (Jared Padalecki) has less round house kicks and action pieces, but still goes after the bad guys in his spare time when not dealing with DRAMA. Now I've not watched much of the original series, but I can say without a doubt that I hate this ineffective main character and his conniving, "but it's for a good cause", criminal children who get away with things because "they're just kids". I purely watch every episode in hopes that they DIE HORRIBLE DEATHS. Luckily the rest of the cast is mostly decently written but not good enough for me to recommend this show. I'm going to stick with it (Season 2 confirmed) to see how much worse it can get. :P

Justice League: Gods and Monsters

A bloody rendition in an alternate universe!

So straight up, I'm not sure why Bruce, Clark and Diana even made it to the cover of the box because they are NOT present here AT ALL. Instead we get Mexican Superman Hernan who is the son of Zod, Bekka the red haired amazon and Kirk who unlike Bruce, has no gadgets but makes up for it by being an f*ing vampire. Not sure how the "League" was formed with just three members, but it doesn't matter as the public hate them anyway.

Why? Because they kill bad guys. Yep. Because they KILL. And that is what makes it bloody awesome. After adjusting from the off-balance of this alternate universe, I was quite entertained by what ensued. The story is passable and gives each of the three their own little back story of how they came to be and the art is of regular Justice League level, but the action sequences are what got me. Yes, there are somewhat "generic" bad guys but boy is there a lot of onscreen killing, stabbing, immolation and such and that gets a massive thumbs up from me.

Confirmed: Best status to inflict on an enemy is "death".

Honestly the violence and Michael C. Hall (Dexter) voicing Batman are the only two things this has going for it. I just hope they can continue the story since they did kill off a heck of a lot of people in this one movie. Given the character list available to them though, it shouldn't be a problem. This one is definitely worth a watch, and one I wouldn't mind watching again a few times. I give it three alternate heroes out of five.

I should also note there are three, six minute clips focusing on each of the new alternate heroes. Not really a lot happening in them nor is six minutes enough time to get invested into the action but if you like the movie, you'll probably like those too (though technically you should watch them -first-). :P
